Practice News

It is with great sadness that we notify you of Dr Sai Sankar's passing on Tuesday 16th February 2021. Dr Sankar died peacefully at home, with his family and friends by his side. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Bharathi.

Dr Sai's funeral is on Thursday 4th March 2021 at 5pm and the hearse will be passing briefly outside the surgery on the way to Basildon Crematorium.

New Partnership

We joined Wyncroft Surgery as partners in November 2020. Although we did not get the chance to work side by side with Dr Sankar, we were lucky enough to work with him and Bharathi, over the last 2 years as part of our role as GP partners of Greenwood Surgery and Clinical Directors for the South Woodham Ferrers Primary Care Network.

We will endeavour to maintain the high standard of care that Dr Sankar was well known for providing to his patients.

What has changed for Wyncroft Surgery patients?

Although we are GP partners of Greenwood Surgery, Wyncroft Surgery and its contract with NHS England, remains separate to this and we share our time between the two practices. The practice manager of Greenwood Surgery, Sian Turner, is also the new Practice Manager at Wyncroft Surgery. Sian had developed a close working relation with Bharathi over the years as fellow practice managers in South Woodham Ferrers.

The advantage of our ties to Greenwood Surgery, our roles within the Primary Care Network and as leads for the Covid Vaccination Program at Crouch Vale Medical Centre will hopefully reassure you all that we are well placed to continue the high standard of care provided. We are also able to bring the skills of our experienced team which includes Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurse and Health Care Assistants to Wyncroft Surgery. 

With the partnership change, there are no major changes that patients would notice. On occasion, it may mean we can offer a patient to be seen at Greenwood Surgery in Crouch Vale Medical Centre or a sample can be dropped off at Greenwood Surgery due to the later courier times available than that at Wyncroft Surgery.

Dispensing News

We are sorry that staff shortages within the dispensary has limited the service provided in the last few months. We are actively looking to rectify this and are delighted to announce that we have recently installed a card reader to help improve the ease of payments for prescriptions/private letters and reduce the handling of cash.

We accept any credit or debit card that displays a Visa, V PAY, Mastercard, Maestro, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, or Union Pay logo. We accept contactless payments including via Google and Apple Pay.


Please give 72 hours notice for your repeat medications (you can use the post box by the front door).

Please collect your medications between 10am to 12 midday and from 3pm onwards only.

The door is OPEN

The window has closed and the door is now open.

We remind all patients NOT to attend the practice if you are displaying any symptoms of Covid 19 or have been advised to self isolate.

We do not bring any patients into the practice who have or are suspected to have Covid 19. A respiratory 'hub' is available for us to book into for these patients.

When attending the surgery you will be asked to wear a face covering / mask and observe the maximum occupancy of 4 in the reception area to maintain social distancing. All clinical staff will be wearing PPE.

Requesting medication - online pharmacies

Wyncroft Surgery is now in line with Mid Essex policy for 'stopping managed repeats'. This means that requesting of medication IS NOT accepted via third parties such as chemists and/or their apps. We will continue to send prescriptions to an online chemist but after they have been requested and processed via an alternative method below.

We recognise the need to provide patients with easy, reliable and accurate methods to request their medication, but also a more robust way that minimises medication errors. So, instead, we ask you request through the following ways:

1) Download the NHS Appclick here to download and learn more about the NHS App

The NHS App is quick and easy to download (you do not require NHS number etc. only basic details about yourself). It is a secure app that connects directly with your medical record allowing the processing of requests to be more efficient and accurate. It also allows you to book appointments, see results of investigations and areas of your medical record.

2) Joining online medical access called 'SystmOnline' Access

This is currently found in the 'online services' page and can be done by speaking to our receptionist. We will soon add a form to the website which can also be completed to help the joining process.

3) Usual method of posting at surgery or sending via post (new postbox to be installed soon)

4) We DO NOT accept telephone requests unless exceptional circumstances where patients are housebound and unable to comply with the above.

Mid Essex residents who need to see a GP or Nurse on a weekday evening, Saturday or Sunday can now book an appointment by calling 01245 398055.  (Phone line open on Saturday and Sunday for patients)

Appointments are available as follows:

  • Monday to Friday 6.30pm to 8.00pm
  • Saturday and Sunday 8.00am to 8.00pm

Consultations will usually take place via telephone or video call.  If a face to face appointment is required, it will be at North Chelmsford Health Centre, Sainsbury's, 2 White Hart Lane, Springfield, Chelmsford, Essex CM2 5EF

Practice Shut Down Dates 2021

All practices in Mid-Essex will be closed for staff training from 12.30 to 6.30pm on the dates below. 

Wednesday 31st March 2021

Mid-Essex CCG will be providing out of hours care for our patients from 12:00 until 18:30pm and our telephones will be diverted during this time.

General Data Protection Regulations

General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) is a new legislation which is effective from 25th May 2018.

In order for patients to continue to receive SMS (Text messages) from Wyncroft Surgery, we need your consent.

If you have online access you can do this by logging onto SystmOnline (smart phone apps) and choosing the “Account” option then select change contact details. Scroll down to Telephone Numbers and click “Yes” button to allow messaging.

If you do not have access to Systmone online please contact surgery –

Email the surgery at or speak to reception.

If you have an email address registered with the surgery - you will also need to give consent to receive communication.  

We need following information when contacting the surgery - Name, Date of birth, Address and telephone number along with your consent to receive the text messages from the surgery.

Friends & Family Test

From the 1st December 2014 all GP practices are required to ask patients the Friends & Family test questions that will be monitored by NHS England on a monthly basis.  The two questions are as follows:

How likely are you to recommend our GP Surgery to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?


If we could change one thing about your care or treatment to improve your experience, what would it be?

All patients will be given a form with these questions to complete whenever you visit the surgery. All forms can be completed anonymously. We would be most grateful if you could please take a few minutes to complete a form and pop it in our Friends & Family Post box.
